Become a working member at the Brattleboro Food Coop and receive a 10% discount on all store purchases.

(not including meals purchased and eaten in our café)

  • Complete 6 hours of work every three months (or 2 hours a month).
  • Work in the store, sit on committees, or exchange a special talent for work hours. Below is a list of job opportunities for working members.
  • Once you put your first two hours of work in, you will be eligable to receive your first 10% discount.
  • Coop employees, who are also working members, receive a 20% discount on all purchases!

 

Working Member Job Listings

Deli Dishwasher

Listen to your own music while loading our industrial size dishwasher. Qualifications: able to stand for 2 hours and tolerate working with steaming water.

Grocery

Stocking our shelves and sometimes clean them. Qualifications: able to bend and squat for 2 hours. Some heavy lifting is required.

Cheese Counter

Help us wrap, label and price our vast assortment of cheeses. Qualifications: able to stand for 2 hours, capable of using sharp cutting tools.

Kids Room Attendant

You must attend our kid's room orientation prior to signing up for this job! Provide supervision to children in our kid's room while their parents shop. Qualifications: enjoy working with children, some child care experience preferred.

Bulk Foods

Help us pack our dry fruits, grains, pastas and stock herbs and spices. Qualifications: should have good hand dexterity, and able to scoop small objects into small bags.

Produce

Have fun playing with water while you spray our fruits and vegeables. Bring in your own music. Qualifications: able to stand & work with cold water for 2 hours.

Baggers

Help our shoppers bag (or box) their groceries. Deliver them to the car when necessary. Qualifications: able to stand for 2 hours, some lifting of heavy bags and boxes.

Educators

Our Coop prides itself on the variety of educational programs offered to our community. We are always looking for members who are interested in teaching classes. Qualifications: work well with people, able to speak to groups.

Cleaning & Task Master

Help keep the Coop clean. Tidy up our bathrooms and staff room as well as sweep, dust, and mop when necessary. Qualifications: able to reach, bend and move with few physical limitations.

Writers

Write articles for our monthly newsletter "Food for Thought". Qualifications: excellent writing and people skills.

Food Demos

Give out food samples to our shoppers. If you like smiling a lot and talking to people, this job can be for you. We require that you take one of our monthly food demo training sessions prior to participating.

Nutrition Education Committee

A very active group that develops nutritional programs for our community. Qualifications: able to attend monthly meetings and willing to assist with events. An interest in nutrition or health edcation is helpful.

Cook & Drop Off

Prepare foods for our special events. You cook the dish at home and drop it off at the Coop. We require that you take the food demo training prior to participating.

F.A.C.T. (Food Action Coop Team)

Discuss and help educate our shoppers about political, social, and environmental issues pretaining to food. Qualifications: able to attend monthly meetings and willing to sit at information tables.

Musicians (or other talent)

The Coop is always in need of musicians, artists, clowns, face painters, dancers, etc. who are willing to perform at our special Coop events. Msicians will receive an hour of work credit for rehersal time. Qualifications: comfortable performing in public.

Volunteer for Coop Work Hours

Receive up to 2 hours of Coop work credits, once a year, in exchange for your time spent volunteering for local non-profits. See Shareholder Services for details.

Body Workers

Earn work credits by providing body-work for shoppers. Body workers are usually needed at special ecents, health fairs, and our coop's annual self-indulgence week. Qualifications: we ask that you be a certified body worker in order to participate.
