July 2012 Education Outreach connects our Co-op to the community in a variety of ways, all related to healthy eating and promoting local foods. Engaging young children to seniors, our goal is to promote wellness through experience and education. Education Outreach builds partnerships with community organizations to connect with diverse groups in a variety of locations. Everyone enjoys a chance to try a taste of delicious food and the Co-op becomes known as a resource for healthy food choices.
The Co-op collaborates with the active Farm to School program in Brattleboro to connect kids to local food and farms. Many elementary schools have school and community gardens, so the impact of introducing kids to growing and eating fresh produce extends to their families and neighbors as well. Teens who gather at the Boys & Girls Club have an opportunity to learn skills and try new recipes in a cooking class. This popular activity provides teens with a healthy snack and gives them an opportunity to learn about making healthy choices.
